What makes counselling psychology unique?

Counselling psychologists work with individuals, families and couples experiencing a range of mental health difficulties and emotional distress. Our thorough, immersive and knowledge rich doctoral training makes us skilled in developing ways to help you achieve your psychological goals. Therefore, as a Chartered Counselling Psychologist I am a specialist in delivering psychological therapy and Iā€™m well versed in providing both counselling and psychological therapy informed by a diverse repertoire of evidence-based psychological and psycho-therapeutic theory and research.

What makes the counselling psychology training unique is that if offers an inherently relational and context-sensitive approach to psychological therapy. This prioritises your subjective experiences of emotional distress whilst considering your more immediate and wider socio-cultural environment. This means I can offer a holistic approach to your difficulties in a way that priorities your unique story and also views you as an expert in your own experience. This leads to the creation of a collaborative space whereby your voice is always respected and placed at the centre of the therapeutic process.

Counselling psychology is also the only doctoral level psychology training that requires individuals to undergo their own personal therapy throughout the duration of their training. Therefore, my own personal experience of therapy has endowed me with very high levels of self-awareness which is key to delivering successful therapy. I am also able to offer deeper levels of empathy understanding regarding the process of being a client seeking and undergoing therapy.
